Blog Vacation Update

Welcome to Scarlet Thread Sunday, the day we enter the labyrinth of life and see what lessons we can learn.

Last Wednesday, I mentioned that I am taking a blog vacation, with the exception of ROW80 updates. Still, I want to share something I’ve learned, so here’s an important truth my humorous uncle taught me while I was growing up.

At least not without getting clobbered right after. Consider yourself warned. 😉

ROW80 Update

  • Edit/rewrite SHARING HUNTER, a YA contemporary novel. No more progress.
  • Edit two short stories–one needs a final polish, the other a full edit. I wasn’t ready to get back into Sharing Hunter, so I got on this one. Done! I even edited a third story.
  • Read 10 fiction books: I’ve knocked out four so far: White CatRed Gloveand Black Heart by Holly Black and Firelands by Piper Bayard.
  • Finish craft book: Writing Young Adult Fiction for Dummies by Deborah Halverson. (I read the first half last round.) Read another chapter.
  • Visit and comment on five ROW80 blog posts per week. Done.
  • Attend at least one RWA meeting. Just waiting for August meetings to arrive.

How did your week go? Have you ever taken a blogging vacation? What vacation plans do you have the rest of the summer?

By the way, I appeared on Catie Rhodes‘s blog last week, writing about my Celebrity Author Playlist for “Color Me Happy,” my young adult short story in the anthology Orange Karen. Check out the post HERE.

  1. Even though you didn’t spend time with Sharing Hunter this week, you made a lot of progress. Well done.
August is going to be crazy. Four family parties and three of those are out of town. Both of my sons turn a year older. Oh and I’m trying to get a book ready for release. Yeah, August is going to be crazy. 🙂

  2. You’ve done well with your goals this week. That’s great!

I did take a blogging vacation some months ago. I had to, for health reasons, and I have to say, I do notice a difference in my mood when I leave the laptop and return to real life. It’s a bit like I’m after drinking strong coffee or something. Not good. So, checking in for ROW80 on Sundays is the most blogging I’m doing now.

I’m wishing you all the very best with your goals for the week to come. 🙂

    1. I hope your health is much better now.

I personally love blogging, but I’ve got so much going on right now that I needed a break.

Thanks for your well-wishes! Have a wonderful week, Lisa!

  3. LOL! Love the Meme, it is actually one that has passed through my family since I was a kid–but this is the first time I’ve seen it visualized. Awesome job with the short stories and the reading. You are kickin butt Glover-style (should make a dance for that). Have a fantastic week, Julie!

  4. When I went on vacation for 2 weeks, I couldn’t take a vacation from blogging. I had a couple of posts ready and scheduled, and I peeked at comments while I was gone. I know! I shouldn’t have. I couldn’t help myself.

I’ve been wanting to write a couple of short stories lately. I may have to go for it after seeing your completed goal several short stories. Good for you! I’ve got a writing weekend coming up, so I have to get all my revisions planned. I might toss in some short stories while I’m there. 🙂

  5. I almost had a vacation, but ‘real life’ interceded! ROW80 keeps me focused with the 2x weekly check-ins, and what I notice from reading what others write each week is that the most inspirational check-ins offer the reader something related to writing. Here, you unplugged from blogging. This sounds better than a ‘staycation.’ Maybe we should have a word for this — blog-cation? And yet, your commitment to writing craft shows through your goals — writing, reading, reflecting. Wonderful. And inspirational.

  6. I’m heading toward a vacation from blogging. Or something like you are doing – one ROW80 update a week and nothing for more. I just came to the end of a lot of meme’s and I’m exhausted! It takes so much time away from writing / editing too.

You have done well and as always, I’m sure you’ll kick goal bootie during the week ahead. 😀

    Shah X
